African governments to improve agriculture
African governments have developed strategies to improve the agricultural sector through marketing but these have not been actualized or sometimes target only large and medium scale farmers. The smallholder farmers, who dominate the agriculture sector are therefore not able to access markets for their produce. They also incur numerous losses due to the perishable nature of agricultural produce as well as poor post harvest handling techniques. The buyers, traders, processors and exporters too are faced with numerous drawbacks and are not able to address the marketing needs of the smallholder farmers. These include poor road infrastructure, trade liberalization, poor storage and stringent international export |
